Story description
In the village of Ashby the bell has rung eight times every night for two hundred years. When it rings a ninth time, the bell-keeper vanishes and the candles go out. You have until dawn to find out who climbed the tower — and whose name is being carved on the ninth step.
Prologue
You count without meaning to. Everyone in Ashby does — eight rings, then the long silence, then sleep.
Tonight the silence never comes. A ninth note rolls down the hill, low and wrong, and every candle in the inn goes out at once.
